(A Coffee Alternative To Kickstart Your Day)
You know they are good for you. You have memories of staring at a plateful of them while your mum or grandma says "Eat your greens; you’ll live to 100".
How do you consume those sometimes-unsavory greens in a delightful fashion? Green Smoothies have come to the rescue! They can give you incredible lasting energy. You can also add protein powder and chia sees to give you that extra energy boost if you’re planning on being a lycra-cladded superhero today.
However, for green smoothies to become a serious alternative to your much beloved morning coffee – they must taste good! Here’s one recipe to get you started.
Your First Green Smoothie
- 1 cup coconut water.
- 1 Lebanese cucumber.
- 1/2 avocado.
- 1 cup baby spinach.
- juice of 1 lemon.
- handful of mint leaves.
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds.
- any other greens in your fridge.
1 scoop vanilla protein powder.
Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender until well combined. Add a little filtered water if needed for consistency.

Detoxing and Alkalizing
Mental Clarity and Focus
Things to Note
The chlorophyll from the greens in your smoothie can have a detoxing affect on your body. Your body will naturally start to get rid of toxins and this can leave your feeling a little “off” for a short time. This will pass as the toxins leave your body and your energy levels should start to rise shortly after.
Taste-Good! Vanilla Lime Green Smoothie
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup spinach leaves, packed
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1/2 banana, best frozen
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (About 1 medium lime, depending on juiciness)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 - 1 cup ice (optional)
Place all ingredients except the ice in a blender and puree until blended. Add ice and puree until smooth. Pour into a glass and serve with a straw.
