Who Makes Your Clothes

Who Makes Your Clothes

These days, with most of the things we buy, it’s increasingly hard to know the origins of your purchase. It also seems to be increasingly more important to us.

We know the importance of sustainability in all areas of our lives, and it’s heartening to see that this desire for more eco-conscious practices, is spilling into all industries, including that of fashion.

As important as this sustainability, is the knowledge that what we are choosing to wear is ethically produced. No doubt we have all heard the horror stories of the sweatshops that produce the ‘fast-fashion’ that some near sighted consumers are gobbling up. These practices include low wages, child labour and unsafe and unhygienic work places.

At Adrift, we take a completely different approach. While our designs and prints are created here in Australia, my home town of Brisbane in fact, our clothing is made in one of 2 places. We have our very own factory in Bali, that we renovated to a level where we would be proud for our staff and customers to see it in action, and we also have partner factories in India.

In order to make Adrift clothing, each factory MUST comply with our strict code of conduct. This includes rules for our workers such as:
1. Above Award Wages
2. Health Insurance
3. No Child or Forced Labour
4. Education & Training
5. Clean Water & Sanitisation
6. Safe Infrastructure & Energy
7. Cultural & Religious Freedom
8. Disaster Relief Help
9. Gender Equality
We strongly believe, and strive to achieve the theory, that happy and valued workers make more beautiful and well made clothes.
